"...mistreated, misplaced, misunderstood, "Miss, no way it's so good, it didn't slow me down. Mistaken, always second guessing, underestimated, look I'm still around..."
Courageous lyrics right? For days now, since I heard this new song from Pink entitled, f*(king perfect, I've been f*(kingly attached to it.
The emotion, the style, the squeals, the runs, the voice and all that -- they give me chills.
But more than all these things, what keeps me listening to this song is the message it conveys to the listeners. Its lyrics dwelt on the story of two persons -- one who successfully overcome her life's trials encouraging the second one who feels like she's got nothing to be proud of herself. "...pretty, pretty please, don't you ever ever feel, like you're less than, f*(king perfect..." it says in the chorus. It encourages everyone to think of themselves as ones who can drag down their adversities in life.
Having said this, I was reminded of the suicide act of former AFP chief-of-staff Angelo Reyes, who killed himself due to the "accusations" and "exposes" made against him by his former crony, George Rabusa.
How I wish he heard this song before he pulled that trigger and bade goodbye to the world. Suppose he knows how to interpret songs like this, he might have not ended his life and he rather faced his problems with the courage expected from a general.
Honestly, I got shocked after knowing that he was not able to handle his problems well. Now, I have proven that not all of those in uniform (Those in the military) are brave and strong enough to resist the pain inflicted on them (I'm not saying he's a coward, but he's definitely not brave). If I were a person who is pleading "not-guilty" to a crime, then by all means, I would make heaven and earth collide just to prove my innocence.
But well, s*it happens, as what my professor always tells us whenever we meet failures. Besides, we're all, in no way, the same. What one thinks may not be the thought of another person. What may be a solution to one's problem may not be applied to that of others. It's true that we all have enigmas but the way we solve them differs.
In Reyes' case, if it's his way of solving the heinous issue involving him, then it seemed he just reversed his denial of the monkey business he and his colleagues allegedly committed. It was like confessing to a double guilty plea -- one for the purported scouting of money charged against him and another for a seemingly "triple-deck murder case" -- murder of his life, reputation and faith.
Now what? Will this suicide act divert people's attention to it and again kill another national issue (that in the military) just as it has always been? I hope not. I'm no way odd like Pink but there are lessons I learn from her like when she sings: "...so complicated, look happy you'll make it..." It may be complicated to know the truth but let's hope that the Philippines will make it -- make it known who's who.
P.S. I intended to make a song review but I was really reminded of this due to the song's music video which involves a suicide attempt so it turned out like an opinion column...lols
